SmartTag, the compact and easy to use defence spray from the SmartWater Group, was recently launched at bars and clubs in Hereford to help act as a deterrent to limit night time disorder in the city centre.

The launch even took place at Saxtys on Widemarsh Street, in attendance with West Mercia Police and Dave Lewis, Police Liaison Manager at SmartWater.

EQUIPPING DOOR STAFF

SIA-accredited door staff in Hereford will now be equipped with SmartTag defence spray and in the event of a disorder or an incident, will be able to deploy the unique coded forensic liquid within. This means that the perpetrator can then be clearly identified at other venues in Hereford or by West Mercia Police by the use of a special UV torch.

Dave Lewis, Police Liaison Manager at SmartWater, explained: “This forensic spray is completely unique and the main use is to act as a major deterrent to criminals or those likely to cause disorder.”

He also informed security professionals at the launch event that: “The liquid has a range of 8 to 10 metres and for those concerned that he surrounding people could be sprayed, it will be clearly visible who the main target of the spray is aimed at.”

A BIT ABOUT SMARTWATER

SmartWater is a powerful deterrent as it provides the Police with all the evidence they need to prosecute, and a number of offenders are behind bars as a direct result of this. The SmartWater brand is well known within the criminal fraternity and a study shows that 74% of offenders stated they would avoid breaking into a premises that displayed SmartWater® deterrence labels.

OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE POLICE

Edd Williams from West Mercia Police, stated: “The night time economy has been through a tough and unique time over the past 18 months and anything we can do to make it safer, should be seized upon.”

He also went on to say that: “I don’t think we have ever had a better relationship with pubs, clubs and licensees than they do now.”

The launch of SmartTag and the T.A.G Initiative™ has been a huge success in other parts of the country, including our initial trial with South Yorkshire Police. SmartTag-equipped Door Supervisors in Sheffield reported that it had a calming effect when disorder was threatened.

SmartTag defence spray will be used to target those that cause trouble and to make it a safer place for individuals to enjoy a drink or bite to eat out in Hereford. To learn more about SmartTag and how to become an ELITE member, start your membership.
