Back in April 2021, the Security Industry Authority (SIA) made some changes to the training needed to obtain your SIA Licence. What do these changes include? We’re here to tell you all you need to know…

THE LOW DOWN

The Security Industry Authority announced that they have introduced new, updated qualifications in order to obtain your SIA Licence. This applies to all sectors bar close protection and vehicle immobilisation. The new changes also mean that you must hold a First Aid qualification before you can take the training required for a Door Supervisor or Security Guard SIA Licence.

We can also expect to see some further changes in October 2021 around the introduction of updated close protection qualifications and top-up training required before you can apply for a Door Supervisor or Security Guard SIA Licence.

WHAT DO THE NEW CHANGES MEAN FOR YOU – BEFORE 1 OCTOBER 2021

If you are renewing your Door Supervisor or Security Guarding SIA Licence before the 1st October, then there is no change to the process. If you are not looking to renew but registered for training before the 31st March, then again, there is no change to the process providing you submit your application before the October deadline.

You can find out more information on these changes and how they may apply to you, here.

WHAT DO THE NEW CHANGES MEAN FOR YOU – ON OR AFTER 1 OCTOBER 2021

If you are renewing your Door Supervisor or Security Guarding SIA Licence on or after the 1st October, then you will be required to hold a First Aid qualification that is valid for at least 12 months and take the top-up training as/when required. If you do not hold a First Aid qualification, then you will need to obtain this and take the top-up training or take an SIA Licence course that includes a First Aid qualification.

If you are not looking to renew but registered for training before the 31st March, then you will still need to obtain a First Aid qualification and take the top-up training as/when required. You can find out more information on these changes and how they may apply to you, here.

WHY ARE THE CHANGES BEING MADE?

The Security Industry Authority are making these changes to ensure that people working within the private security industry can:
